[ 2 one 5 ] Creative is all about making different and creative stuff, being yourself, and loving Philadelphia. This personality piece was all about enabling perspective clients and employees to get to know the team, while also playing on a seasonal bit.
[ 2 one 5 ] Creative is a busy place. When we aren’t working on putting our clients’ brands in motion, though, we love to take a break to read a book. From memoirs and non-fiction to poetry and novels, we’re reading all over the board, drawing inspiration and creativity from a variety of topics, spaces, and places. Take a look at our suggestions – maybe your summer reading list can take some inspiration from [ 2 one 5 ] Creative.
Shaina, Video and Motion Intern Let’s Not Live on Earth by Sarah Blake
Let’s Not Live on Earth is a book of poems, culminating in a final epic poem about ‘the interplay of perception and experience as it follows the story of a woman who must constantly ask herself what she wants as her world shifts around her.’ The collection details the dangers of being human, and how to adapt and overcome. Shaina, who is a poet herself, recommends it highly.
Emily, Vice President of Brand Development A Prayer For Owen Meany by John Irving
Emily found her all-time favorite book, A Prayer For Owen Meany, in 6th grade. Spanning 30 years of two boys’ lives beginning in 1953, John Irving’s novel takes unexpected turn after unexpected turn. The characters are compelling, and the big-picture themes of fate and – seriously – the meaning of life never get old. But, cautions Emily, the movie does NOT measure up, so stick with the book.
Nik, Founder and Creative Director The Future Of Work by Darrell West
Darrell West, political scientist and cultural observer, takes on the digital age in The Future of Work. From driverless cars to artificial intelligence, West talks about innovation’s impact on society, and proposes several changes of his own to help us to adapt to a transformed world.
Jack, Video Motion Producer Fun Home by Alison Bechdel
Fun Home was written by Alison Bechdel in 2006. Bechdel – yes, that Bechdel – is a Macarthur Genius Award-winning cartoonist, and this autobiographical ‘tragicomic’ tells the story of sexuality and discovery, featuring both Bechdel herself and her father.
Ally, Marketing Intern Where’d You Go, Bernadette by Maria Semple
Where’d You Go, Bernadette is a quirky novel that uses police reports, letters, emails and more to tell the story of 15-year-old Bee as she attempts to find her missing mother. As she slowly unravels the truth about the world around her, Bee’s search is both entertaining and enlightening.
Dan, VP of Operations Difficult Conversations by Bruce Patton, Douglas Stone, and Sheila Heen
Difficult Conversations is about how to have conversations about what matters most. Covering interactions with clients, family, loved ones, and people of all kinds, the informative novel based on years of research tries to make it easier to talk to people about tricky topics, and actualize next steps.
Hollis, Graphic Design Intern The Other Boleyn Girl by Philippa Gregory
The Other Boleyn Girl is classic Tudor: that is to say, full of all the drama, intrigue, and glamour. The book that inspired a major motion picture, The Other Boleyn Girl is a story about competition and betrayal, and how to follow your heart, in the face of obstacles. This tragic book is full of social conflict that will make any fan of the Real Housewives feel right at home, despite the era.
Dave, Development Strategist Maisie Dobbs by Jacqueline Winspear.
Dave is changing it up a bit this summer; “For once I’m not reading a tech-y or business book. I just cracked open a detective novel.” Maisie Dobbs follows a detective back in time, exploring her life as she evolves from a young girl to a newly minted detective exploring her first case. Maisie’s story about love, war, and the times of hardship that follow, is an intriguing one, with mystery and history molding a unique story.
